earlier this month julie klausner contacted me about doing some gifs for the live recording of her podcast at the bell house in brooklyn.
it’s often really difficult for me to step back and compare what i’m doing now to what i was doing a year ago (preschool teaching in mid-missouri). if someone had said “lacey, you’re going to be making a pop-punk gif of one of your favorite musical artists, and a gif of sandra bernhard, or should i say nancy from roseanne (or better yet, CAROLINE POOP) AND one of tom scharpling, who is literally funnier than any human being (fuck you if you try to tell me i’m wrong) and they’d all be for julie klausner, who is funnier and more talented then any of us will ever be” i would have said “fuck you, you’re an asshole.”
i’m so grateful for opportunities to work with people i really respect and have a lot of admiration for. i get a lot of opportunities to work with great artists and great people (especially recently), but nothing really compares to working with people you’ve looked up to for years. 16 year old me would think i was the fucking coolest person alive.
thanks julie!
(ps, if ira glass was some asshole who used internet acronyms, he would have tweeted “smdh” when he saw his gif last night. perfect.)
I have Jake Fogelnest to thank for turning me on to Lacey’s brilliant work. These GIFs played last night when the guests walked out onstage, with the exception of the one featuring me and Teddy all pop-punk’ed out, which played during the second verse of our cover of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated.”
Thank you Lacey—you are a genius.
